Nick Marsman

Nick Marsman

Nick Marsman is ambassador for the Football Maties Foundation. Unfortunately, he lost his starting position as goalkeeper for FC Twente during the 2013-2104 soccer season. Nevertheless we are very pleased that our PR & Communication Manager Mark Kantelberg recruited Nick to join us as an ambassador.

Nick Marsman in his own words: “I was very honored when the Football Maties Foundation approached me. Who would not support a non-profit foundation that puts their efforts into helping children and youth in third world countries? Everyone should have the right to play this fantastic sport of soccer and I want to contribute however I can”.

FC Twente Soccer Academy

In 2003, while playing for Rhoda Raalte, Nick was scouted by FC Twente’s Youth Academy. He played for their academy until the U17 age group. In the 2006-2007 season, while still playing with the U16 age group, he already played several games with the U17 team that won the national championship. One year later he also won the Supercup and the Otten Cup with the U17 team.

In 2009, Nick Marsman moved up to Young FC Twente and was also sometimes part of FC Twente’s first team. He was on the bench when they won the Johan Cruijff Trophee in 2010 for example. At the end of 2010, he signed his first professional contract with FC Twente that lasted until 2014.

Dutch First Division

In May 2011, Marsman was told he would be moving up and become FC Twente’s third goakeeper. He made his professional debut on September 21, 2011 because of injuries to Michajlov and Sander Boschker. His team played against VV Zwaluwen for the Dutch KNVB Cup. He made his Dutch First Division’ debut a couple of weeks later on October 15th. He did not allow a goal during that game. Nick Marsman played in a total of four games during that season.

Go Ahead Eagles

Before the start of the 2012-2013 season Nick Marsman was on loan to Go Ahead Eagles. In that season he played 32 games and after winning the play-offs, his club was promoted to the Dutch First Division. In short, despite losing his starting position, Nick Marsman is a young and talented goalkeeper that already defended the goal a season for FC Twente.

The Football Maties Foundation is proud and very happy to have Nick Marsman as an ambassador.
